Knud Reinholdt Nielsen (1891-1984) is a listed Danish artist born on January
12, 1891 in Aarhus, Denmark. After becoming a journeyman painter, he was
educated at Arvid Aes' painting school (The Technical School) in Aarhus
from 1905-1910. He then studied under Wilhard from 1911-14.
Nielsen was a highly valued artist who favoured woodland sceneries and
first found his motifs in the Marselisborg Woods around his home town
of Aarhus and later, after moving to Copenhagen, favoured the famous park
area in Dyrehaven, just north of Copenhagen. He was best known for his
series of Dyrehaven (Deer Park)landscapes painted in different seasons.
He was a humorous and beloved character who rarely finished his works
at home. Instead he stayed in the freezing cold or the hot summer afternoons
until his work was complete. His focus was capturing the details in the
changing weather and lights and his works are known for their detailed
and fresh looks. Reinholdt Nielsen worked primarily in the Danish nature
but before WWI he made study tours to Germany and Belgium (1910) and later
to Italy in 1921.
In appreciation of his work he won The Otto Bache Scholarship in 1943.
He debuted at The Dyrehaven Painters Associations Exhibitions (Copenhagen,
Denmark) in 1917 where he exhibited almost continuously until 1972. Nielsen
was the second chairman of the Deer Park group and a board member of Foreningen
for National Kunst (the Society of National Art). He was also frequently
represented at the esteemed Charlottenborg Spring Exhibitions (Copenhagen)(1920-1984),
Union of national arts 1944 – 1969, The artists union 1924 – 1952, His
works are represented at Oeregaards Museum.
A Knud Reinholdt Nielsen painting sold for $1,703.00 at auction in Copenhagen
25-10-94.
